Stage 1:
FSRE Exam

  • Multiple choice
  • 2 hours duration
  • 70% Pass Mark

FSRE explores the commercial and regulatory financial services environment, the role and legal obligations of regulated advisers and key concepts of risk and ethics.

Content:

* the structure of the UK financial services industry and its role in serving the consumer
* financial services regulation, the FSA’s approach and the legal responsibilities of regulated advisers
* the essential concepts and importance of risk
* ethical behaviour and the FSA’s principles based approach
* the Code of Ethics and professional standards
* the essential skills required when advising clients

The second unit has two stages:


Stage 2:
The Course Work Assignments

  • Approx 2500 words
  • Case Study Elements
  • Approx 4 months completion duration
  • 50% Pass Mark
  • Scores in Coursework Assignment
  • Accounts for 30% of the Advanced Financial Advice (AFA) Exam final grades



Stage 3:
Advanced Financial Advice Exam

  • Written Exam
  • Fact find Elements
  • Approx 9 months completion duration
  • 50% Pass Mark
  • Factfind provided 2 weeks prior to the examination date
  • Accounts for 70% of the Advanced Financial Advice (AFA) Exam final grades


Content:

* evaluate and analyse complex information regarding clients' financial circumstances, needs and relevant considerations
* understand how to design, monitor and critically assess a bespoke portfolio with reference to market indices and empirical evidence
* understand how to evaluate the various tax considerations that need to be taken into account when making a recommendation for a client
* research and critically evaluate options
* formulate recommendations
* develop plans for the implementation of solutions
* present and explain your findings in a logical, clear, concise and coherent manner
